Kydex Torture Tests

We endeavor to produce hard use gear for the most demanding of needs, and it is for this reason that we thoroughly test our gear. The KCT staff are Concealed Pistol License carriers, and we do use our own gear when in the field. We would not sell a product that we did not have confidence in, and ensure that our designs will withstand the abuse they may receive. This is where we will post the durability tests that we perform on our holsters.

Cold Weather - Impact Test

The following test was performed to show the temperature and combined impact resistance of the kydex material itself, as well as our holster design. We left one of our holsters out in 7 degree Fahrenheit for several hours, and then beat on it with a 16 oz. hammer. By the time we actually started the impact tests, the temperature had dropped down to 2 degrees Fahrenheit.

Above is the setup of the test, and below is the video of the flexing we did by hand and the hammer impacts after the three hours the holster was subjected to the cold.

After the above test was performed, the holster was simply dried out, and was able to function flawlessly with a Glock as it had before:

Weight Suspension Test

For the following test, we put one of our Low-Mass OWB holsters on a leather belt, and attached the belt around a cross beam in the shop. We then ran a length of paracord through the middle of the holster, and hung weights from a bar. By the time we ran out of weights, we reached a total of 64 pounds being held by the holster. This can hang free, and we also were able to push down on the weights and lift them several inches and drop them without incident.

The holster used was a Low-Mass Charter Arms revolver holster, and was held together with only 5 rivets.

Car/Crush Test

We took one of our Low-Mass holsters with integrated belt loops and, well, ran over it with a car. See the footage below of the holster being subjected to this:

Even after being run over, the holster still seemed to hold up just fine. Following running it over, we then decided to park the car on it for a bit:

Despite all of this, the holster still functions flawlessly. It did not crack, bend or break in any way. This holster after being ran over and crushed by a car, still was able to hold a Glock 19, and still provide adequate retention.
